How to Become a Permanent Resident (PR) in CANADA

Canada is one of those countries which has highest yearly rates of immigration in the world. All immigrants in Canada have to complete the application procedure to enjoy all the opportunites Canada offers to its citizens. As Permanent Residents, immigrants share almost all the rights of a Canadian citizen except for the voting right and unlimited stays when traveling outside of Canada. Applying for PR is time taking and a complex procedure. 

6 Divisions to become a Permanent Resident (PR) in Canada:

Skilled Worker Class Immigration. 
In this application class, permanent resident applicants are evaluated based on educational attainment, language ability, age, arranged employment, adaptability and of course, work experience.

Business Class Immigration. 

For an investor to qualify, he/she needs to have a legally obtained net worth of $800,000 CAD and must invest $400,000 CAD into Canada’s economy. For an entrepreneur to apply, he/she needs to have experience in managing a business and a net worth of $300,000 CAD and must be willing to operate and create one full-time job for someone else. A self-employed person qualifies with the necessary experience, intention and ability to start a business that will create employment opportunities for individuals and create significant contributions in sports and cultural activities for the country. Ability and intent to manage and put up a farm is also included in this class.

Provincial Nomination Program. 

The province will nominate or choose individuals whom they want to migrate and settle in their province. Once nominated, the individual will need to apply for permanent residency with Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

Family Class Immigration. 

This class is for those who have an immediate family member holding permanent residency in Canada who may opt to use the sponsorship system for easy processing of application for permanent residency.

Quebec-Selected Immigration.

 For this province a separate evaluation system is being applied.
International Adoption. The country allows permanent residents to adopt foreign child from other countries thus making the child a permanent resident in Canada.

In acquiring your permanent visa, you need to provide a medical and criminal record check. You must fill out the application form completely, pay the required fees and lastly, attend an interview with an immigration representative.

In the winter this beautiful country is famous for its snowy weather. Winters are very cold here, but the beauty is breathtaking and something that the snow lover will enjoy. There is nothing like the magic of Niagara Falls, Canada and its winter delight. There are many happenings around the Falls which include The Festival of Lights, something that even those who are not fond of the cold weather cannot deny the beauty of.

Summer is a great time to visit Canada and those who travel at this time of the year will enjoy beautiful, sunny weather while still keeping cool. A trip around Niagara Falls, Canada is ideal at this time. A major tourist attraction, Niagara Falls, Canada offers a plethora of activity just waiting to be explored.



Springtime blossoms fill the air and Canada has an abundance of them. If you really cannot tolerate the brisk, cold air of Canada this would be a good time to travel there.

Tips for Coping with Canadian Winters Snow and Cold !

In my previous blog , I showed you the pictures of Chilly Winters of Canada . Now here are my tips on how to bear with Canadian Winters Snow and Cold.

Canada Snow in Winter can be a big shock if you've always lived in a hot country or a moderate climatic country like India ! If all your life has been spent in a country like Australia , India where you can go surfing at Christmas and not freeze to death, you might think you're a happy camper.

But living in a hot climate has prevented you from developing an important skill set : How to cope with living in a cold climate with snow, ice, sleet, like Canada. Chances are, you cannot imagine ' freezing ' rain and don't know how lucky you are!

My car buried in snow in Scarborough Ontario Canada snowstorm . When it's winter in Canada , my emails to a friend in India read like weather reports, as indeed they do much of the year.

In Canada, we even have a television channel just for weather -- and mainly Canadian weather, at that!

Canadians tend to think the entire world is as concerned with weather as they are, and it comes as some considerable surprise that much of the world is not.

It occurred to me that my friend has no frame of reference, other than the few winters she lived in Paris, which Canadians know is nowhere near as wintery!

Winter's heavy snowstorms and bitter cold weather in Canada and the northern U.S. affect every facet of life, things like how long it takes to get to work, or if we get to work at all, when we can shop, or get out and about.

And it means work, hard work, to scrape ice off cars and walks and drives. Australians have no idea.

Trying to explain the impact of snow and cold to a hot weather Liz is like trying to explain a heart surgery technique to a water buffalo. You can try, but some things -- childbirth comes to mind -- just have to be experienced

So, for my Liz friend and other warm climate types who can't relate to the tingle of frost-bitten fingers or the stess on a fast-beating heart after an hour spent shoveling snow off the drive, I've put together some pictures and tips to give them a frame of reference for dealing with winter.

Skillset for Life in a Cold Climate ~ Winter in Canada Tips

• Don't eat the yellow snow. Or the blue snow. Or the pink snow. Snow is white.

• Don't stick your tongue or any damp body part on frozen metal. Do not bother testing this out.

• Use a proper ice scraper tool. Credit cards will snap under cold and pressure.

• Don't scrape too hard when you scrape ice off your car -- you'll scrape the paint, too.

• Don't buy groceries, then leave them in the trunk (boot) of the car. Fresh produce freezes rather quickly, especially bananas. (You'd think something named Iceberg lettuce would be all right, but you'd be wrong)

• Don't drive off in your car until you've removed all snow and ice, including from the roof of the vehicle. (I cannot stress this enough, people!) When the interior warms up, this ice and snow will dislodge and launch itself like some frozen frisbee at the vehiicles in your vicinity. A frozen projectile at speed can cause (and has caused) serious crashes.

Corollary to above tip: Watch out for other vehicles, especially very large trucks that cannot be de-iced easily (They are pretty high and difficult to clear). Large trucks randomly launch very large sheets of icy snow from great heights onto the roadway. It's an adventure in reflexive driving. This also applies to skyscrapers. 

Watch how you go!

• Earrings, especially solid metal ones, get very cold very fast in freezing temperatures.

• Do not lick your lips outdoors in very cold weather. Major chapping! Carrry lip balm at all times.

• Use a thermal mug for take away coffee, tea and hot chocolate, etc.

• Inuit -- Canada's native northerners -- have so many words for snow they can describe each of its nuances in a word or two that efficiently conveys the age, temperature, moisture content etc of a particular type of snow.

• Keep your head covered in cold weather -- the body will lose most heat through the head.

Chilly Winters of Canada

Winter in Canada may be chilly, but it has plenty to offer both the adventure seeker and city slicker.

What's the weather like in Canada in winter? This is the first question which 

strikes in one's mind who is visitng Canada or Planning to Settle here. 

As I write today, the temperature is a frigid -15 degrees and snowy in Toronto , so I feel particularly well qualified to share my thoughts with you about Canada’s winter experience.

No doubt about it, winter weather conditions in many parts of Canada can be harsh at times. High windchills, heavy snowfall, blizzards, freezing rain and extremely cold temperatures all pose a hazard to those travelling or venturing outside.

Some parts of Canada don't get much snow and ice in winter but many Canadians battle tough weather conditions and slippery roads for almost six months each year.

The height of winter is freezing cold in most places in Canada except for the BC 

coast, where winters are moderate. Whistler, two hours inland from Vancouver, on 

the other hand, gets loads of snow and is a major ski destination through May.

The Rockies winter is long. Calgary, however, does not get much snow, but it stays 

around in the higher altitudes; Banff and Canmore may get two feet in April. 

Southern Alberta gets winter relief from warm Chinook winds.

Eastern Canada, including Toronto and Montreal, has a shorter, fierce winter: 

mostly sub-zero temps and -20°C (-4°F) not uncommon. At least one or two snowfalls 

of eight inches or more will likely hit in Jan and Feb.

Snow, Snow Everywhere!

You can tell it's very cold, and not very windy, because the snow is sticking to 

the trees.

It's rare to have snow cling to trees for any length of time, unless it's the wet, 

sticky kind we get when temperatures are right around the freezing mark. But that 

never lasts.

If the temperature warms, the snow melts and drips off; if the temperature drops, 

it takes away the mositure and the wind blows it off.
